• General FAQ
    • What is Boat020?

Ahoy! We are an Amsterdam based platform aiming to enhance the experience of sailing on the canals of the city. We believe that people should be able to order a boat wherever they want, whenever they want. Our list of boats is updated daily and therefore we are sure they adhere to international safety standards.

    • Does Boat020 also have an app?

Our app can be downloaded (free!) for Iphone and Android

    • What is a Free Request?

Like it says, totally free of charge. You let us know where you want to be picked up and we send you a message within minutes to see which of our available boats are around.

    • What is the difference between Boat Now and Boat Later?

With Boat Now we guarantee you to step aboard a boat in under 60 minutes from now. With Boat Later you can be assured of the availability of your favourite boat well in advance.

    • What if no boats are around?

We’ll still contact you by phone to see how we can help you out. Perhaps there is a boat available a few tram stops away!

    • Which different boats can I sail?

Select ‘boat later’ to see an overview of the boats we have available. Use the search filter to select for the amount of passengers or type of boat and click ‘Free Request’. We’ll contact you within minutes!

    • Are all boats always available?

We have unique tools to determine whether or not a particular boat is available. Send us a Free Request and we’ll let you know.

  • Boats FAQ
    • Whose boats am I renting?

We do not own any boats ourselves. All of the boats we offer are licensed by the City of Amsterdam and sailed by experienced captains.

    • Am I renting a licensed boat?

All the boats displayed on our app or website are licensed by the City of Amsterdam.

    • How about safety on board?

All the boats displayed on the app or website are licensed and in compliance with the latest rules and regulations that are documented in the Regeling Passagiersvaart Amsterdam 2013

    • Where am I being picked up?

You can choose the (nearest) pick-up point by selecting one of the piers on the map, which are shown by ⚓ anchors ⚓

    • I see no boats on the map?

That’s correct! We know where they are though.

    • How long are we going to be on the water?

You’ll need at least an hour to experience a touch of the majestic Canals of Amsterdam. Therefore we have set this as the minimum time. However, if you specify you time advance, you can sail as long as you want!

    • Which different types of boat can I sail?

There are four different types of boat: Big Boats (Over 20 people), Open Boats (with a 360 degree view), Romantic Boats (for just the two of you), and Saloon Boats (classical).

    • Can we Hop On, Hop Off?

Ask us in advance, we’ll ask the captain.

    • What are the facilities on board?

Per boat an overview of facilities is given. Therefore you know exactly beforehand if there is a toilet on the boat or that a roof will shield you from Dutch rain.

    • Can the captain arrange something to drink and/or eat for on board?

This is heavily dependent on which boat you pick. However, the captain is always open for suggestions, also regarding dietary wishes. We’ll ask you by chat/phone what you prefer.

    • Can I bring my own food/drinks?

Overall, this shouldn’t be a problem. Particular boats may charge a fee for this. We’ll let you know by phone if this is the case.

    • Can I change or cancel my order?

Once you have placed a Free Request you can always cancel it by text/WhatsApp/call. We’ll contact you first to specify the details. If afterwards the boat is underway to the pick-up point you cannot cancel anymore.

    • When can I sail a boat?

We are available 24/7 on chat. However captains need their sleep as well. Therefore there are less boats available at night and the price could be higher as well. Send us a text and we’ll see what’s possible.

  • Payments FAQ
    • How do I pay?

The boat business in Amsterdam is cash based. Therefore the captain takes care of all matters regarding payment. Of course you’ll never pay more than we specify in our app/website.

    • How much do I pay?

In the app/website you can exactly see what the total price per boat/hour/person is. No surprises in hindsight. Promised. Our boats range from €105/hour for max. 12 persons all the way up to €795/ hour for max. 175 people.

    • Do I pay Boat020 for renting a boat?

No. Our platform is completely free. You only pay the captain. We’ll arrange it with him/her from there.

    • Is it cheaper to rent the boat from the captain him/herself?

No. We ask exactly the same price as the captains do themselves.

    • What if my tour was not as expected?

We always aim to deliver the best experience of the Canals of Amsterdam. If something went wrong please contact us so we can help you out. Also the captain is there to help you so make sure to inform him if you need anything.

    • Can I get my payment back?

Let us know through text/call if for whatever reason you want your money back. Of course, once the tour is completed, the captain is paid, and a week later we find out, it will be very difficult for us to help you.
